Welcome to Canon Law Education Services

This site is meant for both canonists and those without a canonical license. We try to address different levels of knowledge and information here.

At times, pages of this site may be available only to canonists. When that is necessary, we will require registration for verification of the holder of a JCL or higher. After that we can issue a password for access to those areas.

For Non Canon Lawyers, some basic information may be helpful. The Code of Canon Law is the compilation of the man-made laws of the Roman Catholic Church. The first codification was promulagated in 1917. The Code currently in use was promulgated in 1983 by Pope John Paul II. There have been no modifications or amendments to the Code since then. There are 1752 Canons divided into seven Books. The entire Code acutally prints into one volume. These Canons are the core legislated laws of the Roman Catholic Church around the world. Bishops of different countries may establish norms and interpret these canons to fit their particular Churches, but cannot contradict or conflict with the Code.
